(Westfield, NJ) Today, Representative Tom Malinowski and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo joined local business leaders from New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District for a roundtable on supply chain resiliency and domestic manufacturing. The group met in Westfield, NJ to discuss local manufacturing, strengthening our supply chains, and creating more jobs in the 7th District.
This August, Representative Malinowski visited local manufacturers from across the 7th District to discuss how the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act and Inflation Reduction Act will work to spur manufacturing and strengthen our economy. Representative Malinowski also authored portions of the America COMPETES Act, which made the largest investment in domestic manufacturing in our nation’s history.
“New Jersey companies are poised to lead America in making the technologies of the future,” said Representative Malinowski. “We must build on the CHIPS Act to bring home supply chains for advanced manufacturing, so that our businesses can thrive, costs for consumers come down, and our dependence on adversaries for critical goods comes to an end.”
“I was thrilled to join Representative Malinowski and local New Jersey business leaders today for a vital discussion on supply chain resiliency and building businesses back stronger following the pandemic,” said U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “By working together across the Administration, Congress and the private sector, we will continue to address the underlying factors that impact U.S. supply chains to ensure a resilient, diverse and secure future.”
“Supply chain and workforce issues has changed drastically over the last few years and had applied pressure on U.S. manufacturing firms. In addition to disruptions in the supply chain, plus the higher cost of materials, and we are also experiencing a reduction in our entire workforce due to retirements. The Department of Commerce through the National Institute of Standards (NIST) Manufacturing Extension Program (MEP) is developing a National Supply Chain Database capable of providing a national view of the supply chain to determine in near real-time the United States manufacturing capabilities for critical products, including defense supplies, food, and medical devices,” said Peter Connolly, COO of New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program.
"Every day, Peraton employees work to solve our national security customers’ most daunting challenges. Through our work, we deeply appreciate and understand the importance of resilient supply chains,” said Dr. Petros Mouchtaris, President of Peraton Labs. “We can no longer rely on a 'just-in-time' approach to managing our most critical materials. It is critical that we understand and aggressively mitigate these risks.”
“As a company focused on delivering better everyday health with humanity, ensuring our brands reach our customers and consumers when they need them is a priority for Haleon,” said Deborah Egan, U.S. Commercial Supply Chain and Logistics Lead at Haleon. “We are thankful for the opportunity to have a seat at the table to discuss this important topic with others across different industries.”
