Today, the representative Maria Elvira Salazar ( R-FL ), the representative Josh Gottheimer ( D-NJ ), the representative David Kustoff ( R-TN ), the representative Ted Deutch ( D-FL ), and the representative Joe Wilson ( R-SC ) led more than 100 members of Congress to present the H.Res. 988, which marks the 30th anniversary of the terrorist attack of March 17, 1992 against the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The horrible event caused 242 injuries and claimed the lives of 29 innocent Israelis and Argentines, including school-age children. The Resolution asks for justice for the victims; responsibility for the authors; urges the United States government to continue working with its allies in the Western Hemisphere to isolate governments that support the anti-Semitic attacks on Hezbollah and Iran; and also commends the Organization of American States ( OAS ) for having appointed a commissioner to monitor and combat anti-Semitism.

“ Anti-Semitism has no place in the United States or Latin America ”, declared the representative Maria Elvira Salazar. “ This resolution is a firm mark of determination that we will not flinch from extremist violence. I stand firm and proud with our Jewish community, as well as all those who value religious freedom and want to live in the warm light of freedom ”.

The attack was carried out by a Hezbollah suicide bomber, with logistical support from Iran, and was the deadliest in history against an Israeli diplomatic mission. Argentina is home to the sixth Jewish population in the world. Buenos Aires has almost 180,000 Jews.

“ Thirty years ago today, Iran launched one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in Argentine history. A suicide bomber from the Hezbollah Islamic Jihad Organization, an Iranian representative, killed 29 people and wounded 242 at the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires, and those guilty of these heinous attacks have never been brought to justice ”, said the Representative Josh Gottheimer. “ Thirty years later, Iran remains a dangerous actor and the world's leading sponsor of terror. The United States must continue to work with our allies in the Western Hemisphere to isolate governments that help and instigate Hezbollah, Iran, and other entities that support violent anti-Semitic attacks ”.

“ Thirty years ago, the Jewish community in Argentina was devastated by a horrible terrorist attack at the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires that killed 29 innocent people, including Israeli children and diplomats, and wounded more than two hundred. This senseless attack, carried out by Hezbollah with the support of Iran, ended up carrying terrorism from the Middle East to South America. Now that anti-Semitism and hatred against Israel continue to rise dramatically in the world, it is important that we work together to address these forms of hatred ”, said the representative David Kustoff. “ I am proud to join my colleagues today in introducing this important Bipartisan Resolution to remember the victims of this heinous attack, to ask for the accountability of these evil authors, and ensure that we are able to continue to tackle and combat anti-Semitism ”.

“ Today we commemorate the 30th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires. On this 1992 day, terrorists backed by Iran and linked to Hezbollah killed 29 people, including Israeli diplomats and schoolchildren, and wounded 242 more, in a horrible display of anti-Semitism and anti-Israel hatred ”, he said representative Ted Deutch. “ As anti-Semitism and anti-Semitic attacks increase worldwide, Today's Resolution is a powerful and important reminder of the dangers of uncontrolled hatred in our own hemisphere and throughout the world. This resolution also commends the Organization of American States ( OAS ) for having appointed a commissioner to monitor and combat anti-Semitism in the Western Hemisphere. While we applaud the OAS for its commitment, I hope that our country will soon follow its example by confirming our own Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism, to work alongside the commissioner and confront anti-Semitism wherever it occurs. Today, and every day, we must remain united as a global community against extremism, terrorism and anti-Semitism in all its forms ”.

"On the 30th anniversary of the bombing of the Israeli embassy in Argentina, It is essential that the United States take steps to counter Iran's growing terrorist network in Latin America and continue to oppose anti-Semitism. At this Congress, together with the representative Salazar, I was grateful to present the Bipartisan Law on Hezbollah Responsibility in Latin America of 2021, promoting additional efforts to identify and stop illegal activity between Iran's Hezbollah and criminal regimes in Latin America ”, said the representative Joe Wilson.
