Today, the United States Senate passed the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) for America Act, which will boost American manufacturing to compete against China and prepare our economy for the future. The legislation, which earned bipartisan support in the Senate, passed despite Senator Chuck Grassley’s opposition.
In response to Senator Grassley’s vote, Retired Admiral Michael Franken said the following:
“This is a critically important bill, backed by both Republicans and Democrats, to bring back American manufacturing jobs and help us better compete with hostile actors like China. Yet Senator Grassley, who has spent the last 47 years in Washington ignoring Iowa jobs and companies fleeing overseas. Senator Grassley’s vote to leave our communities behind is proof he’s no longer in touch with what our communities and our economy need back here in Iowa. Iowans deserve fresh, renewed leadership.”
Franken for Iowa campaign manager Julie Stauch said, “Try as he might, Chuck Grassley cannot spin his opposition to this bipartisan bill. We need manufacturing jobs right here in Iowa, not in China. We need investments in domestic manufacturing, research and development so Iowa companies can compete globally.”
“Grassley’s refusal to support this historic investment in American manufacturing shows that we have a Senator out of touch with the needs of Iowans.”
