Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is awarding $15 million to Linn County for derecho recovery and debris removal efforts.

Hinson recently spoke with KCRG about the disaster relief resources she has helped deliver for Iowa's First Congressional District and her ongoing efforts on derecho recovery, flood mitigation, and disaster preparedness.

"Ensuring our community has the resources to fully recover from the 2020 derecho is a top priority for me in Congress and this funding is critical to our ongoing relief efforts in Linn County. I will continue working to bring home resources that will allow our community to rebuild and improve our disaster preparedness, mitigation, and resiliency."  -Congresswoman Ashley Hinson

Background:

  • Hinson supported legislation, including the FY22 appropriations bill, that allocated resources for the Disaster Relief Fund. This supports recovery efforts to communities impacted by disaster.
  • The FY22 appropriations legislation also increased the federal cost share for derecho recovery efforts to 90%, easing the financial burden on localities.
  • This additional funding comes after Hinson recently announced $13 million for derecho recovery in Cedar Rapids.
