Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 7666, the Restoring Hope for Mental Health and Well-Being Act, a bipartisan package that bolsters mental health resources for children and teenagers. The package includes the KIDS CARE Act, bipartisan legislation Hinson co-led that will expand access to mental health care services in schools. The bill also requires physical and mental health screenings for incarcerated juveniles before they are released to help reduce recidivism among minors and ensure kids have the resources they need.

"Children in this country have been asked to deal with more than they can bear over the past few years. In the last year alone, there was a 51 percent increase in emergency room visits for children under 18 who attempted suicide. Kids and families need solutions to pull through these challenging and unprecedented times," said Congresswoman Ashley Hinson. "That's why I helped introduce the bipartisan KIDS CARE Act to help expand access to behavioral and mental health services in schools. I'm proud this legislation, as well as other bipartisan initiatives to combat the overdose crisis and prevent youth suicide, passed the House tonight."
Hinson co-led the introduction of the KIDS CARE Act with Representatives Richard Hudson (R-NC), Ann Kuster (D-NH), and Jahana Hayes (D-CT).
