Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) is awarding $132,359 to Hawkeye Community College to expand commercial motor vehicle safety training programs available for Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders.

"As our country faces a broken supply chain and a truck driver shortage, it is essential we prioritize licensing and encourage more truck drivers to get on the road. This program will help build our trucking workforce to get products on store shelves faster and reduce costs for families. I will continue fighting to bring federal resources back to Iowa.” - Congresswoman Ashley Hinson

Background:

  • This funding was included in the FY22 appropriations package. Hinson serves on the House Appropriations Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Subcommittee that helped determine the FY22 DOT funding designations, including the allotment for the Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training Grant program.
