Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), president pro tempore emeritus of the U.S. Senate, was presented with the Guardian of Small Business Award by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) today. This award, which is NFIB’s most prestigious legislative award, is reserved for lawmakers who consistently support policies that help small business owners. Throughout his annual 99 county meetings, Grassley frequently meets with Iowa small business owners and employees.

“Over the past few years, small businesses have been forced to confront unprecedented challenges – including a pandemic and now soaring inflation. I’ve continued making it a priority to ensure business owners have the resources needed to succeed. Just this year, I successfully led an effort that will help small businesses stay afloat during tough times. Independent businesses form the backbone of our economy, and it’s an honor to support pro-growth policies that enable Iowa’s businesses to prosper,” Grassley said.

“On behalf of Iowa’s small businesses, we are pleased to name Senator Grassley a Guardian of Small Business,” said Matt Everson, NFIB Iowa state director. “Senator Grassley has been a staunch supporter of small businesses and has earned a 100% NFIB voting record for the 117th Congress, further proving his dedication to small business issues. He has been a reliable voice for Iowa’s small businesses in Washington and we are proud to present him with this award today.”

“NFIB awards the Guardian of Small Business Award to Members of Congress who have proven to be real champions of small businesses,” said Brad Close, NFIB president and CEO. “Senator Grassley has supported policies that grow the economy and has opposed legislation that would increase taxes and mandates on small businesses. He has voted consistently with small businesses and has earned being awarded a Guardian of Small Business Award.”

Grassley accepts the Guardian of Small Business Award from NFIB President and CEO Brad Close.

Grassley’s bipartisan bill, the Bankruptcy Threshold Adjustment and Technical Corrections Act, was signed into law in June. The new law will help small businesses stay open as they find financial footing through the bankruptcy process. Earlier this year, Grassley also got his Improving Access to Retirement Act included in a bipartisan retirement bill that passed the Finance Committee. This bill makes improvements to allow more organizations and small businesses to participate in multiple employer plans (MEPs).

NFIB is a nonpartisan, member-driven organization. It has advocated on behalf of American small and independent businesses in all 50 states for more than 75 years.
