From September 22, 2022 post.
Iowan Alexis Taylor, President Biden’s nominee to be undersecretary of agriculture for trade and foreign agricultural affairs at the Department of Agriculture, testified today during a nominations hearing before the Senate Agriculture Committee. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), a member of the committee, praised the nomination during the hearing.
“I have known Alexis for many years and I think very highly of her. I am very pleased that she was nominated for this position and I urge a quick confirmation,” Grassley said at today’s hearing.
Taylor grew up on a family farm near Holy Cross, Iowa, and graduated from Iowa State University.
Grassley previously called on the Biden Administration to prioritize agricultural trade by filling critical roles at USDA, and applauded Taylor’s nomination earlier this year.
Grassley’s remarks at today’s hearing follows:
Alexis Taylor serves as Director of the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA), having served since her appointment by Oregon Governor Kate Brown in December 2016.
Prior to her appointment as Director of ODA, Ms. Taylor oversaw the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services (FFAS).
While traveling the world, she worked to open new markets and improve the competitive position of U.S. agricultural products in the marketplace.
Before joining USDA, she worked for several Members of Congress, staffing members from Montana and Iowa.
Taylor is an Iowa native, who moved to Oregon after working 12 years in Washington D.C. focused on U.S. agricultural and trade policy. She is a graduate of Iowa State University and grew up on her family farm near Holy Cross, Iowa, which has been in her family for more than 160 years.
I have known Alexis for many years and I think very highly of her. I am very pleased that she was nominated for this position and I urge a quick confirmation.
