After the Biden administration announced plans to launch a “Disinformation Governance Board” out of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) is pushing to pull the plug on the new government censorship bureau, comparing it to the “Ministry of Truth” in George Orwell’s dystopian novel 1984.
“A Disinformation Governance Board? Seriously? The Biden administration is quite literally taking a page out of George Orwell’s 1984,” said Senator Joni Ernst. “I won’t be answering to Biden’s new ‘Ministry of Truth’ for what I write, speak, or think, and no other American should either! This government censorship bureau needs to be shut down before it even gets off the ground.”
Ernst is an original cosponsor of legislation introduced by Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) that would fully defund Biden’s proposed Disinformation Governance Board.
