Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced that FEMA is awarding an additional $20,118,713.32 in Public Assistance reimbursements for hurricane recovery efforts in Southwest Louisiana. The funding is made available through the major disaster declaration for Hurricane Laura (DR-4559-LA), which Congressman Higgins supported. The reimbursements include:

  • $2,365,461.89 to the Calcasieu Parish School Board for repairs at Moss Bluff Middle School in response to Hurricane Laura. The reimbursement is made at a 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
  • $1,667,067.72 to the Southwest Louisiana Electric Membership Corp. (SLEMCO) for utility infrastructure repairs as a result of Hurricane Laura. The reimbursement is made at a 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
  • $16,086,183.71 to the Vermilion Parish School Board for emergency protective measures at 27 campuses as a result of Hurricane Laura. The reimbursement is made at a 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 403 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
Much of our official Congressional work to advance recovery projects occurs behind the scenes. Funding finalization and the associated formal announcement of funding are the result of constant efforts over many months with FEMA and state and local stakeholders. All funding will be delivered to the State of Louisiana. The state is responsible for disbursing the funds to each sub-recipient. Congressman Higgins issued the following statement

:“We continue to work with our local, state, and federal partners to provide additional support for recovery efforts. We have delivered over $3.7 billion in response to Hurricanes Laura and Delta. I will not stop working for Southwest Louisiana.”
