Palatine, IL – Chris Dargis, candidate for Congress in the 8th District, is issuing the following statement on President Joe Biden’s announcement he is releasing 180 million barrels of oil from the nation’s strategic oil reserves.

“This is nothing more than an election year gimmick that does nothing to ease the burden on Illinois families. Biden released 50 million barrels of oil last November and it had no impact on gas prices. Doubling down on this ineffective policy only damages our national security while ignoring available solutions that will restore our energy independence and boost our economy.

Furthermore, reducing our oil reserves at a time when Russia is on the war path in Ukraine is shortsighted. Now is not the time to tap into our strategic reserves.

What is needed are proven, effective solutions that lower gas prices today while paving the way to an environmentally friendly, energy independent future. The Biden Administration, along with his far-left allies like Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, are ignoring the common-sense solutions we need and instead offering failed policies that will do little to help working families.

The Biden Administration has halted construction of the Keystone pipeline and hindered new drilling permits on federal land, making it virtually impossible for oil companies to expand oil production. Instead of clearing regulatory hurdles, creating American jobs, and making our nation energy independent, the Krishnamoorthi/Biden plan is to plead with despotic regimes such as Venezuela and Iran to pump more oil while senselessly depleting our own strategic reserves.

Gas prices are at record highs because Congressman Krishnamoorthi and President Biden have decided their radical left-wing ideology is more important than the American people. It is time we had a Congressman in the 8th District who put working families ahead of ideologues and insiders.”

Chris Dargis is running as a Republican in the 8th Congressional District. The Primary Election is June 28, 2022. For information on Chris Dargis, visit: https://www.votedargis.com/.
